Cruise to Rhodes
A jewel of an island has something to offer everyone. According to Greek Mythology, Rhodes was blessed by the God of Sun Helios. The variety of ancient Greek monuments (Acropolis, Temple of Apollo, Theatre and Stadium), as well as the cosmopolitan town with its Venetian castle and inexpensive bazaars, give the visitor the opportunity to have an exotic adventure.
Lindos
Drive along the east coast of the island, a journey lasting about 45 minutes through the villages of Archangelos, Malona, Massari and Kalathos and arrive at Lindos, one of the most beautiful villages on the island. Lindos has been declared a monument for preservation and so it has been able to retain most of its traditional colour and charm.
Above this enchanting village stands the Acropolis of Lindos, dedicated to the goddess Athena Lyndia as well as a mighty Fortress.
You can walk up to the Acropolis (which takes about 15 minutes) or hire a donkey to take you part of the way.
The ancient sanctuary is built in levels leading upwards. At the top is the temple of Athena Lyndia (4th century B.C).
Within the Acropolis you can see the remains of a Byzantine church and the fortification of the Knights of St. John. From the top, you can look down on St. Paul’s Bay, where it is said the Apostle first set foot on the island in the year 52 A.D. On our way back we visit St. Paul’s Bay and then return to the ship.
