Jeitta, Grotto, Lady of Harissa & Byblos (Beirut shore excursion)
After disembarkation, we drive through the center of the Old City of Beirut, which is undergoing extensive restoration. We drive along the coastal road to the world famous Grotto of Jeitta. We begin to explore these magnificent caves with a Cable-Car Ride and a short walk, which takes us to the famous Stalactites and Stalagmites, which have taken millions of years to develop. A short train ride inside the mountain, takes us to an underground lake, followed by a boat trip on the lake.
We then drive to the beautiful Church of Our Lady of Harissa. Overlooking the church is a statue of Our Lady of Lebanon. After visiting the Church, we enjoy the magnificent view of the coast from this vantage point. Continue along the coastal road passing by Junieh, the new seaside Resort of Beirut with its picturesque port.
Drive on to Byblos, the beautiful coastal city of Lebanon, which later developed into a picturesque fishing village. Wander through the little narrow streets of Byblos, down to the Harbor, where you can either take a short Boat Ride or visit the many Souvenir Shops in the area. (Visiting the Castle is not included in the Excursion). Byblos is claimed to be the oldest inhabited city in the world.
On our return journey to Beirut, ample time will be given for shopping at Beirut’s Shopping Center.
